The aim of this role is to increase public engagement opportunities on climate and social justice, making it easy and fun for the local community and our visitors to take collective action.
This post is funded for 2 years from National Lottery funding.
Key Responsibilities:
Work with project partners to design and commission art and installations for each Department with positive messaging and ways to engage in climate and social action.
Work with Community Champions to share stories of community action and how others can join in, in the Community Champions Corner
Work with traders to tell their story and how they work to meet the Goals, share sustainable working practices and ensure that the content of retail in the store is in line with Sparks values
Work with Sparks Co-Directors to respond to the outcomes of the local community survey being undertaken by UWE into what our local community wants Sparks to deliver.
Managing the window displays in Sparks to ensure they are engaging the public in the Goals
Taking a lead on commissioning and organising events and talks in the workshop space on all aspects of the Goals.
Working with traders in Sparks to ensure they comply with the Sparks Code of Conduct (based on the SDGs) and bringing in new traders that add to the offer at Sparks.
Contributing to funding bids to increase what we can offer to creatives in Sparks.
Responding to the evolving needs of the project to increase the collective action messaging in Sparks.
Person Specification
We are looking for someone who works in a collaborative way, communicating clearly with all Sparks staff to ensure operational efficiency and exceptional customer satisfaction. We need someone who contributes constructively to the project and team planning and development, performs all duties in a time effective manner and is willing to work flexibly to meet the needs of the project.
Essential skills/experience:
- Exceptional people management skills
- Experience of managing projects and multiple stakeholders
- Experience of commissioning art, curating exhibitions or creating window displays
- Clear understanding of and commitment to inclusion and sustainability - supporting the aims and values of Sparks
- Good IT skills and understanding of spreadsheets
Desirable skills
- Previous experience working in a retail environment in a managerial capacity
- Knowledge of spatial planning
- Good working knowledge of health and safety and creating risk assessments
- Experience of managing budgets
HOURS : 24 Hours Per Week to be worked across Wednesday-Sunday
Flexibility appreciated as some weekend work will be needed (one or two days per month)

NB Working from home is not an option in this role.
