As a key player in an electrical distribution company serving aviation clients, the Operations Manager is hands-on, with the ability to perform most warehouse tasks directly. As an Operations Manager the success in this role is achieved by effectively delegating responsibilities, leading by example, and conducting daily team briefings to allocate workloads and address operational challenges.
Operation Managers responsibilities:
- Manage the picking, packing, and dispatch processes to meet timeliness and accuracy standards for customer shipments.
- Ensure the warehouse is well-organized, secure, and that stock is stored correctly and safely. Maintain continuous stock checks and streamline stores consolidation activities.
- Supervise the goods-inward process with support from the Goods Receiving Leader, ensuring all incoming shipments are inspected, recorded, and stored appropriately. Customer returns must also be processed in line with company protocols.
- Act as a liaison with shipping companies to maintain required service levels and explore opportunities for improving courier services.
- Support senior management with change initiatives, actively participating in discussions for long-term improvements. Lead by example in implementing changes, training team members, and updating procedural documentation as needed.
- Serve as the primary point of control for sample stock and lost stock bins. Regularly stock-check these areas, investigate discrepancies, and maintain accurate records.
- Handle advanced shipping notifications via customer portal systems and various software platforms. Stay updated on changing requirements, act as the subject matter expert for these tasks, and train team members as needed.
- Direct team efforts and workflow to achieve and exceed KPIs set by senior management. Propose updates to KPI targets to align with short- and long-term business goals.
- Promote and enforce high standards of health and safety across the department.
- Schedule and oversee team attendance, balancing holiday requests with operational needs. Ensure adequate coverage during lunch and breaks by maintaining a well-structured rota.
Skills & experience required:
- Has experience leading a team in logistics or warehousing, especially in distribution or manufacturing.
- Pays attention to detail, works carefully, and stays motivated to get tasks done.
- Can use the IQ system and supplier/courier websites to find and process information.
- Manages time well and knows how to prioritize tasks for the team.
- Can create and work with documents and spreadsheets.
- Communicates clearly, whether giving praise or handling team conflicts, and encourages positive team behaviours.
- Takes initiative to solve customer and supplier issues and works to resolve them quickly.
- Leads the team effectively, inspiring them to achieve goals and exceed targets.
