About the Role - Financial Assessment and Benefits Officer

Financial Assessment and Income Unit complete financial assessments in accordance with the Council's charging policies and national legislation for people supported by Adult Social Care and Health. These people are receiving chargeable care and support services. Our team provide financial information and advice to external and internal customers.

What is the day-to-day of the role:

  • Complete financial assessments accurately for people to establish how much they need to pay towards the cost of their care
  • Clearly and accurately explain costs and how calculations are done
  • Analyse and interpret financial data
  • process deferred payment applications and prioritise securing debt to the authority
  • Undertake the councils statutory duties in relation to safeguarding vulnerable adults and their finances
  • Proactively monitor and escalate complex accounts that require management review

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Educated to minimum A level or NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration or another relevant subject.
  • Able to travel and work flexibly across the opening hours of the service according to changing demand.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret complex data, provide clear and accurate advice to customers regarding their individual situation.
  • Sensitively manage challenging and difficult conversations.
  • Confident telephone manner.
  • Ability to deliver in a target led environment, prioritise and work to deadlines.
