Main Purpose of the Role:
To prepare, cook, and serve high-quality, nutritious meals to students and staff in accordance with school and national nutritional standards. The chef will ensure a safe, hygienic, and welcoming environment in the school kitchen and dining areas. Additionally, the Chef will take a lead role in implementing healthy eating initiatives for both pupils and staff. This role involves supporting the Catering Manager in running the in-house catering service, ensuring outstanding kitchen and restaurant facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Meal Preparation and Cooking:
Plan and prepare a menu with the Catering Manager that is balanced, nutritious and appetising in line with the Standards for school food in England, and which offers a variety of ingredients.
Cook and serve meals in a timely manner, ensuring food is presented attractively.
Adjust menus and recipes based on seasonal availability and special school events.
Ensure all Catering Assistants carry out the preparation and cooking of all meals to the recipe
specifications and nutritional guidelines
Ensure safe principles are adhered to when preparing and cooking food, and make sure that
all kitchen staff are aware of these principles
Menu Planning and Nutrition:
Collaborate with the Catering Manager to design menus that meet the nutritional guidelines set by the UK Government
Taking a lead role in planning and implementing healthy eating initiatives
Ensure portion control and manage waste effectively.
Health and Safety:
Ensure that a high standard of hygiene is maintained in the kitchen, and that all catering staff understand and apply basic food hygiene principles
Conduct regular checks of kitchen equipment and storage areas to ensure compliance with safety standards. Such as food and equipment temperatures.
