Position: Mechanical Support Engineer

Location: Ideally in the Surrey area commutable from Bromley, Woking, Croydon, Crawley, Wimbledon, Feltham, Slough. Guildford, Dartford, Woolwich, Gravesend, Maidstone, Twickenham

Remuneration: 35,000 - 40,000 (DOE), annual bonus, holiday, pension + additional company benefits

We are seeking a dedicated and hands-on Mechanical Support Engineer to join our site-based team, providing crucial engineering expertise across various functions. The Support Engineer will possess a strong mechanical engineering background, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. This role requires a proactive and adaptable individual who can work effectively in a fast-paced environment, contributing to the development and improvement of our engineering processes and products.

Mechanical Support Engineer Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive engineering support across various departments, including BOM checks, condition assessments, job pack creation, and preparation for production projects.
  • Conduct thorough fault investigations and diagnosis, develop solutions, and produce detailed engineering reports.
  • Develop and review test procedures, engineering change requests, concessions, and production permits to ensure compliance with technical and quality standards.
  • Perform material analysis and comparisons and contribute to the design and development of tooling and test equipment as needed.
  • Manage warranty investigations, including interacting with customers and suppliers, conducting root cause analyses, and preparing detailed investigation reports.
  • Draw conclusions on failures, provide recommendations for corrective actions, and ensure follow-up actions are implemented effectively.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to resolve complex engineering challenges and provide support for continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Produce technical reports in line with company and client requirements, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and thoroughness.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of engineering processes, procedures, and tools to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve overall quality.

Mechanical Support Engineer Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum HNC/HND qualification (or equivalent) in a mechanically biased engineering discipline. A higher-level qualification is advantageous.
  • At least 3 - 5 years of experience in a professional engineering role, with a strong balance of hands-on engineering, testing, problem-solving, and technical process writing.
  • Experience in conducting condition assessments, technical investigations, and managing engineering tasks from concept through to completion.
  • Familiarity with multiple industries, such as Automotive, Rail, Marine, Power, Renewables, Oil and Gas, Aviation, and others is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of BS 8888 technical product documentation standards and specifications.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality management system.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills, with the ability to work from first engineering principles.
  • Commercial awareness, with an understanding of the impact of engineering decisions on business outcomes.
  • Strong communication skills in both technical and conversational English, with the ability to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
