We are seeking a highly talented and influential Designated Social Care Officer (DSCO) to advance our key priorities across Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and social care. This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape and lead in a pivotal area, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and improving outcomes for children and young people with SEND.

Day-to-day of the role:Strategically lead in embedding the social care elements of the SEND strategy across the local authority.Ensure compliance with the SEND Code of Practice 0-25 (2015) and statutory responsibilities under the Children and Family Act (2014) and Care Act (2014).Support colleagues in children’s social care to meet their statutory duties for children and young people with SEND aged 0-25.Represent the council at key regional and national events, providing expert professional advice on SEND reforms relating to social care.Offer training, advice, and guidance to staff throughout the organisation and to partner agencies as the social care lead.Use quality assurance frameworks and systems to monitor and review the effectiveness of services.Identify areas of the EHCP processes requiring practice improvement and present solutions.

Required Skills & Qualifications:Passion for making a positive difference to the lives of children and young people with SEND.In-depth knowledge and understanding of both social care legislation and the SEND reforms.Experience in negotiating with and influencing others, building and nurturing effective partnerships.Ability to plan and manage workload to meet strict deadlines and work collaboratively.Effective leadership and negotiation skills with experience in driving organisational developments.Applicants must have completed their ASYE (Assessed and Supported Year in Employment).
