Opus People Solutions are working with Bromsgrove are looking to recruit a Principal Officer to join their team to co-ordinate, supervise, monitor and manage the operational work and performance of a team of professional officers. We are looking for someone who can assist and support the Team Manager in implementing the service plans and ensuring the service fulfils its statutory functions and a wider public protection role. This person will also be expected to provide advice and education to the public and businesses on trading standards and environmental health/public health issues.

Main Responsibilities:

  • To act as an inspector of weights and measures (subject to qualification) including verifying and certifying any weighing equipment submitted for passing as fit for use for trade.
  • Prepare reports for submission to council committees and other audiences working to tight timescales and deadlines, to attend and present reports at such meetings as required.
  • To prepare and take evidence for legal proceedings and make such appearances in Court and at public enquiries as may be required.
  • To study and keep appraised of the scope of work carried out by the regulatory service and the changes in trading standards/environmental health legislation.
  • To attain and maintain a sound working knowledge in an area of trading standards/environmental health/ licensing work assigned to the post.
  • To provide advice to the public, trade and businesses on environmental health, public protection and trading standards issues.
  • To overseeing the advisory service provided to partners on planning applications and development control processes where this is part of the post holder's duties.
