Tutor and Assessor Functional Skills & Maths - Temporary - 21 hours pw - Broxbourne - £28.29 to £30.40 per hour

We are recruiting for a temporary Tutor and Assessor of Functional Skills & Maths to work at Hertford Regional College to help deliver an outstanding learner experience and be inspirational to students at our state of art facilities in Broxbourne.

About The Role

We are seeking an individual who is passionate about supporting our learners in developing their knowledge, practical skills and deliver functional skills programmes of teaching, learning, assessment and student support to HRC Apprentices at the Broxbourne Campus from January 2025. You will support the successful attainment of apprentices, via the application of effective teaching and assessment practices, of timely outcomes for learners on Apprenticeship programmes within the identified subject area / specialism (Functional Skills Maths and English).

Main Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the planning and development of functional skills at Levels 1 and 2 within the apprenticeship programmes.
  • Undertake on-boarding entry phase activities as required, such as the interviewing, assessment, selection and induction of students for functional skills courses.
  • Conduct initial assessments and ensure that effective support is in place, both in the workplace and at college to meet the needs of individual learners
  • Devise appropriate Schemes of Learning, Lesson Plans and Individual Learner Plans in accordance with college policy and procedure
  • Manage an identified caseload of learners and involve employers in associated teaching and assessment processes where required; provide a high-quality service based on good working practice
  • Carry out practical teaching and assessments in the workplace and ensure that all relevant paperwork and associated compliance requirements are fully met
  • Deliver flexible training and assessment activities in the workplace, in the classroom and remote online learning, using a variety of learning methods suited to the identified subject area / specialism
  • Promote the importance of planning a programme of delivery to ensure that all apprentices are sufficiently stretched and challenged with English and Maths skills throughout their Apprenticeship programme
  • Monitor learner progress and provide regular and constructive feedback. Ensure effective target setting is used to support timely attainment
  • Monitor and maintain learner records (including progress tracking) as required for internal and external purposes, using college systems as appropriate
  • Comply with agreed student retention, attendance, and success measures in line with agreed performance expectations
  • Internally verify learners assessed work in accordance with awarding body regulations.
  • Support and promote the College’s equality and diversity, health and safety, safeguarding, prevent and other policies, processes, arrangements, and objectives
  • Attend and support promotional events, open evenings and employer and community liaison events as required
  • Undertake other tasks, as directed, to meet the needs of the College; work flexibly; and take personal responsibility for retaining and developing competence.

About You

Successful candidates will display a passion for teaching and enjoy interacting and engaging with students. You will work collaboratively with colleagues whilst using your own initiative.

You will have and equivalent level qualification in a relevant subject or commitment to achieve this within a specified time period, Teacher training qualification such as a PGCE or DTLLS or commitment to achieve this within a specified time period, GCSE C or above in Maths and English (or equivalent) or commitment to achieve these within a specified time period.

You will have significant teaching and assessment experience in Functional Skills Maths, proven experience of working in an educational organisation, proven experience of effective team working.

You will have high ethical and professional standards, good interpersonal skills, good organisational / administrative skills, be willing to work flexibly to support learners in the workplace - occasionally work irregular or unsocial hours, be professional and reliable with good time management skills and you will own a car and have a full clean driving licence and car available for business use.
