Are you a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant (TA) looking to make a difference in the lives of young learners?

If so, GSL Education are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Teaching Assistant (TA) in Buckhurst Hill, Essex to join a specialist school in Buckhurst Hill, Essex. This is a rewarding opportunity for individuals with prior experience working with children who have complex learning needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, sensory processing difficulties and other additional needs.

About the Role:

As a Teaching Assistant (TA), you will play a pivotal role in providing tailored support to students with complex needs. You will assist in creating a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment, helping pupils to access their learning and develop essential life skills.

Responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant (TA):

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with complex learning and behavioural needs.
  • Assist in implementing EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plans), working closely with teachers, SENCOs and external professionals.
  • Use a range of communication methods, including PECS, Makaton and assistive technology, to support pupils with speech and language difficulties.
  • Support students with sensory processing needs, ensuring they are comfortable and engaged in their learning environment.
  • Implement positive behaviour strategies to support emotional regulation and engagement in the classroom.
  • Assist with personal care and daily routines, where necessary, ensuring dignity and respect at all times.
  • Monitor students’ progress and provide regular feedback to the teaching team.

Requirements of the Teaching Assistant (TA):

  • Previous experience working with SEN pupils, particularly those with complex needs, in an educational or care setting.
  • Knowledge of ASD, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, sensory processing disorders and associated learning needs.
  • A patient, empathetic and adaptable approach to supporting children with additional needs.
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and take initiative when required.
  • A relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (e.g. CACHE Level 2/3) or equivalent experience.
  • Have an updated CV and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
