Job Title: Engineering Manager 

 

Job Summary

As a key member of a multi-disciplinary engineering team, you will be responsible for overseeing and implementing governance related to engineering delivery. Your role includes defining engineering resources, ensuring compliance with processes and standards, and leading engineering programs to meet project requirements on time, within specification, and in accordance with governance standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the engineering team to effectively deliver projects within agreed timelines and budgets.

  • Define and support common processes across multiple business sectors.

  • Implement and monitor agreed processes and governance to meet delivery expectations.

  • Ensure compliance with Telent gateway processes for network and hardware designs.

  • Adhere to DfT, TLF, and customer requirements for product and solution delivery and approval procedures.

  • Support conceptual solution development, ensuring designs align with cost-effectiveness, sustainability, and geotechnical requirements.

  • Ensure compliance with internal and external Verification and Validation processes for system designs and implementation.

  • Establish and maintain a robust change management procedure to ensure the availability of engineering and technical resources for project delivery.

Key Deliverables

  • Engineering delivery that complies with statutory legislation and specified client and company procedures.

  • Effective competence management, training, and development of engineering personnel.

  • Performance management of the engineering team, identifying strengths and areas for improvement.

  • Driving innovation, efficiency, and cost reduction through a culture of continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Skills Requirements

Minimum Qualifications/Skills:

  • Degree or HNC/HND in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent experience.

  • Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or demonstrable equivalent professional competence.

  • Experience managing small to medium-sized multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Proven ability to deliver engineering and technical resources within budget and timelines.

  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, systems, processes, and methods.

  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation (e.g., HASAW 1974, CDM regulations, ISO 45001) and company safety policies.

  • Familiarity with business systems and processes for resourcing, bidding, and financial management.

  • Holds relevant industry-specific licenses/certifications.

  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.).

  • Knowledge of quality standards, regulatory requirements, and processes in the relevant business area.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Commercial awareness and the ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders.

  • Problem-solving mindset with analytical and reasoning abilities.

Desirable Qualifications/Skills:

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent professional competence.

  • Extensive knowledge of specific sections of the CDM legislation.

  • Experience operating in a Principal Designer role.
