Job responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Overseeing, updating, and ensuring that Trustees and Directors comply with the organisation's Articles and relevant Terms of Reference, guaranteeing adherence to company and charity law, as well as the Charity Commission’s requirements.
  • Keeping the board updated on legal and regulatory developments that could affect the organisation, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
  • Coordinating the sign-off for the Annual Accounts and take the lead in preparing notices and documentation in accordance with the organisation’s Articles of Association. Submit all required forms and documents to Companies House, the Charity Commission, or as stipulated by legislation.
  • Handling legal disputes and litigation, either by managing them directly or liaising with external legal counsel.
  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts and agreements to safeguard the organisation's legal interests.
  • Offering practical and commercial legal support to the organisation’s operational services, providing timely advice on significant legal developments and their potential impact.
  • Monitoring internal compliance and data practices to ensure the organisation and its functions adhere to applicable GDPR requirements.
  • Providing guidance on data protection training needs and oversee data protection impact assessments and internal audits.
  • Collaborating with the Head of Quality to develop a comprehensive corporate governance and risk framework, ensuring effective oversight across all the organisation’s directorates.Developing, implementing, and supporting the organisation in maintaining compliance with legal risk management requirements, policies, and standards.

Job Criteria

  • Qualified Solicitor or Barrister
  • Previous experience within the charity and healthcare sectors (desirable)
  • Understanding and experience of key legalisations and governance requirements
  • Ensuring a high standard with business writing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
