This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about making a positive impact in young people’s lives and thrives in a supportive team environment. A pupil referral unit (PRU) is a type of school that provides education for pupils who are unable to attend a mainstream or special school. PRUs offer a supportive and nurturing environment where pupils can access a personalised curriculum that meets their academic, social, and emotional needs. As a learning support assistant at a PRU, you will work closely with teachers and other staff to provide individualised support for pupils with a range of needs, such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, mental health issues, or trauma. You will assist pupils with their learning activities, behaviour management, and personal development. You will also help to create a safe and positive atmosphere in the classroom and around the school.Day to Day of the Role:

  • Assist teachers in the classroom to support the delivery of lessons.
  • Motivate and encourage pupils to engage in learning activities.
  • Provide support to young people who may exhibit challenging behaviours.
  • Help maintain a structured and nurturing learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with the teaching team to implement educational plans.
  • Contribute to the assessment and monitoring of student progress.
  • Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance your skills.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • GCSEs in Maths and English (Grade C or above).
  • Strong educational background across various subjects.
  • Familiarity with the national curriculum and relevant learning programmes.
  • Knowledge of relevant policies and codes of practice.
  • Enthusiasm, commitment, and a positive approach to working with young people.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Experience working with young people is preferred.
