SEND Teaching Assistant Supporting Individuals or Whole Classrooms

About the Role:

We are seeking dedicated and passionate SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) Teaching Assistants to join our team in specialist schools across East Sussex. As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with a range of special educational needs and disabilities, ensuring they have equal access to education and opportunities for growth and development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with SEND, including those with autism, dyslexia, ADHD, and other learning difficulties.
  • Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and support strategies tailored to the needs of each student.
  • Collaborate closely with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, promoting their emotional well-being and building their confidence and self-esteem.
  • Support students during lessons, helping them to engage with the curriculum and overcome any barriers to learning.
  • Assist with the personal care and mobility needs of students, as required.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND is highly desirable.
  • Relevant qualifications, such as a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or equivalent, would be advantageous.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, colleagues, and parents/carers.
  • A patient and empathetic approach, with a genuine passion for supporting the learning and development of students with SEND.
  • Flexibility and adaptability, with the ability to respond effectively to the diverse needs of students in a dynamic educational setting.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
