We are seeking a creative and organized Art Technician to support the Art Department at our secondary school. The successful candidate will play a key role in assisting teachers with the preparation of materials, supporting students in practical sessions, and ensuring the smooth running of the art rooms. This position is ideal for someone passionate about art and design, with strong organizational skills and a proactive attitude.

Key Responsibilities:
Classroom Support:
Preparation of Materials: Prepare and organize art materials, tools, and equipment for lessons, including paints, clay, canvases, drawing materials, and digital media equipment.
Classroom Setup: Set up workstations, art supplies, and equipment before lessons, and ensure everything is cleared away after lessons.
Support for Practical Lessons: Assist students and teachers during practical art sessions, offering technical guidance and helping students with tools, techniques, and materials.
Maintenance and Health & Safety:
Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and clean art equipment, including paintbrushes, easels, kilns, and other tools, ensuring everything is in good working order.
Health and Safety Compliance: Ensure that health and safety regulations are followed, particularly in relation to the use of tools, chemicals, and other potentially hazardous materials.
Material Storage: Manage the storage of art materials and ensure they are safely stored, including the proper handling and storage of flammable or hazardous substances.
Resource and Inventory Management:
Stock Control: Monitor stock levels of art materials and equipment, place orders when necessary, and ensure supplies are ready for lessons and projects.
Budget Assistance: Work with the Head of Art to manage the budget for art supplies, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.
Display Preparation: Assist with the preparation and presentation of displays and exhibitions of student artwork within the school, creating visually appealing and organized displays.
Administrative Support:
Record Keeping: Keep accurate records of stock, orders, and equipment maintenance.
Photographic and Digital Support: Help photograph student work for portfolios or exhibitions and assist with digital art equipment, such as printers, scanners, and cameras.
Essential Requirements:
Artistic Knowledge: Understanding of various art techniques and mediums, including painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, and digital media.
Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize workload, and keep the art department running smoothly.
Attention to Detail: Careful and methodical in preparing materials, maintaining equipment, and ensuring health and safety compliance.
Communication Skills: Good interpersonal skills to work effectively with teachers and students, offering technical support and guidance.
Health and Safety Awareness: Understanding of safety procedures in an art studio, including handling chemicals and art equipment safely.
Desirable Skills and Qualifications:
Previous experience working as an Art Technician or in an art-related environment.
Formal qualifications in Art and Design or a related field.
Experience with kiln maintenance, ceramics, or digital art technologies (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite).
Experience with photography, digital printing, or exhibition curation.
Working Hours:
Full-time or part-time hours during school terms, typically Monday to Friday. Some flexibility may be required for special events or exhibitions.
