Job Title: Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching AssistantLocation: BurnleyStart Date: After February Half Term

Are you passionate about supporting children with additional needs and making a positive difference in their educational journey? We are currently looking for enthusiastic and dedicated Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistants.

We have two exciting opportunities available:

1. SEN Unit Teaching Assistant (Primary School)

In this role, you will be working within our dedicated SEN unit, supporting children with a range of special educational needs. You will help facilitate their learning and development, ensuring they have the support they need to thrive academically and socially in a nurturing and inclusive environment. You will work closely with the class teacher and other support staff, providing tailored support to meet the individual needs of each child.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support children with a variety of learning needs on a 1:1 or small group basis
  • Assist with classroom management and ensuring a safe, positive learning environment
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCo to implement individual learning plans (ILPs)
  • Provide emotional and behavioral support to help children build confidence and independence
  • Contribute to tracking and monitoring the progress of students

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Previous experience working with children with SEN is preferred
  • A patient, compassionate, and adaptable approach
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
  • A commitment to promoting inclusion and supporting children's individual needs
2. 1:1 Teaching Assistant for a Child with Down Syndrome

This role requires you to work on a 1:1 basis with a child who has Down Syndrome, providing tailored support to help them engage with the curriculum and reach their full potential. You will work closely with the child's family, teachers, and other professionals to create a consistent, positive learning environment. Specific training in PEGG feeding will be provided, and experience in this area would be an advantage.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support to the child throughout their school day
  • Assist with daily tasks such as feeding, personal care, and mobility, ensuring the child's needs are met
  • Support the child's access to the curriculum and help with their academic progress
  • Foster the child's social development and independence
  • Work alongside the child's family and school team to ensure continuity of care and learning
  • Support in the delivery of therapeutic interventions and assist with PEGG feeding (training provided)

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Previous experience supporting children with Down Syndrome or other learning disabilities
  • Training or experience in PEGG feeding (or a willingness to undergo training)
  • Ability to build a trusting relationship with the child and their family
  • A positive, proactive, and empathetic approach
  • Patience and a strong commitment to the child's development
