Prospero Teaching are working with an SEN school who are dedicated to creating a nurturing and inclusive environment for pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and those with behavioural challenges.

They are seeking someone to build self-confidence, improve mental health, and support personal development. We are looking for a compassionate and driven Sports Coach who can assistant within the classroom and can inspire and positively impact our students, acting as a strong role model and supporting them in achieving their potential.

Role Overview: We are seeking a Teaching Assistant to work with pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs. You will be responsible for supporting pupils and promote positive physical, social, and emotional development. The ideal candidate will have the ability to build strong relationships with students, acting as a mentor and role model, and creating a safe and supportive environment in which they can thrive.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils with SEMH and behavioural challenges.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils, acting as a mentor and role model to encourage their personal and social development.
  • Provide individual or small group support to students, focusing on building confidence, teamwork, and communication skills through sport.
  • Work closely with teaching and support staff to ensure that activities are appropriately adapted for each pupil, with a focus on inclusion and participation.
  • Support pupils in managing their emotions and behaviour through structured and well-designed physical activities.
  • Track progress and provide feedback to pupils, staff, and parents on both social and physical development.
  • Foster a positive and motivating environment, promoting teamwork, resilience, and a growth mindset.
  • Ensure all activities are safe, accessible, and enjoyable for all students.
  • Participate in meetings and training to contribute to the ongoing development of the school's SEMH and behaviour support strategies.

Essential Qualifications & Skills:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH and behavioural challenges, ideally within an educational or SEN setting.
  • A natural ability to build rapport and establish trusting, positive relationships with students, particularly those who may find it challenging to engage in school life.
  • Empathy, patience, and resilience when working with vulnerable pupils.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team

Desirable Qualifications & Skills:

  • Experience working with pupils who have SEMH, autism, or other specific behavioural needs.
  • First Aid qualification.
  • Knowledge of strategies for managing challenging behaviour and promoting positive mental health.
  • Ability to incorporate therapeutic approaches into sports sessions to support emotional regulation.
