Role Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Managing Estimator to lead our estimating team at our Burton-on-Trent office. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in structural steel and a proven track record in managing complex estimates. This is a critical role in ensuring the competitiveness and success of our bids, requiring someone with excellent leadership, analytical, and negotiation skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the preparation of detailed and accurate cost estimates for structural steel projects, including design, fabrication, erection, and related services.
  • Analyze project specifications, drawings, and requirements to develop comprehensive and competitive estimates.
  • Lead and mentor the estimating team, ensuring the accuracy and quality of all estimates.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and clients to develop value engineering solutions and cost-saving strategies.
  • Manage the tendering process, including the preparation and submission of bids and client presentations.
  • Negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors to secure the best possible pricing and delivery terms.
  • Monitor and adjust estimates throughout the project lifecycle to ensure alignment with budgets.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, materials, and innovations to maintain a competitive edge in the structural steel market.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Extensive experience in an estimating role within the structural steel or construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of structural steelwork, including design, fabrication, and erection processes.
  • Proven leadership skills with experience managing a team.
  • Excellent analytical, numerical, and negotiation skills with high attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • A degree or relevant qualification in construction, engineering, or a related field is desirable.
