Machinist – CNC & Manual | Bury St. Edmunds

Hours: Monday to Thursday, 06:00 – 16:00 (4-day week!)
Location: Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk

We are working with a well-established and highly respected manufacturer based in Bury St. Edmunds who are looking to bring an experienced Machinist into their growing team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on precision work, operating both CNC and manual machinery, and values a positive working environment with long weekends every week.

The Role

As a Machinist, you’ll be responsible for producing high-precision components using CNC Mills, Lathes, and manual machines. The role is varied, technical, and key to maintaining the company’s reputation for quality and accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC and manual machines to produce components to tight tolerances

  • Work from technical engineering drawings

  • Perform first-off and in-process inspections

  • Troubleshoot and resolve basic machining issues

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and efficient work environment

  • Support continuous improvement through 5S and TPM practices

The Ideal Candidate

  • 5+ years' experience in a similar machining role

  • Proficient in CNC (mills & lathes) and manual machinery

  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings

  • Recognised machining qualification or time-served apprenticeship

  • Quality-focused with a strong safety mindset

  • Confident working independently to production deadlines
