Legal Secretary Audio Typist
  • Location: Bury St Edmunds
  • Job Type: Temporary (2 weeks cover)
  • Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm

We are seeking a dedicated Legal Secretary Audio Typist for a temporary 2-week cover position. The role requires a professional who is adept at audio typing and document preparation, and who can work efficiently in a 100% office-based environment. 

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Accurately prepare various legal documents from digital dictation, including letters, forms, briefs, and invoices.
  • Handle routine matters, correspondence, and queries independently when appropriate.
  • Liaise with clients, counsel, courts, and other third parties.
  • Assist enquirers by phone and in person, recommend services, arrange consultations/appointments/call-backs, and follow up on open enquiries.
  • Provide clients with a high level of service, resolving any queries or concerns promptly and courteously.
  • Enter key dates in the firm’s central diary, monitor diary notes, and inform of forthcoming events and deadlines.
  • Manage files including opening new files, conducting conflict checks, maintaining files in good order, and closing files on conclusion.
  • Uphold client confidentiality at all times.
  • Report formal complaints for investigation when relevant.
  • Assist with other duties such as photocopying, faxing, reception cover, etc.
  • Attend training as requested.
  • Record all relevant work on the firm’s computerised time recording system.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proven experience as a Legal Secretary, particularly with audio typing and document preparation.
  • Familiarity with legal terminology and the SRA Code of Conduct.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to liaise with various parties.
  • Competence in handling confidential information.
  • Proficiency in using legal software and computerised time recording systems.
