Responsibilities:

As a Senior Building Control Officer, you will be responsible for:

1. Ensuring compliance with Building Regulations and current legislation by providing advice to developers and contractors.

2. Liaising with relevant organisations, conducting on-site meetings and inspections, and making necessary recommendations.

3. Maintaining and updating computerised records of building inspections.

4. Investigating and providing advice on building issues outside the scope of building regulations.

5. Responding to emergency situations, removing dangerous conditions, and supervising remedial works.

6. Providing advice to other departments to ensure compliance with safety standards.

7. Checking the siting of buildings and supervising duties related to land charge searches and naming and numbering of streets.

8. Investigating complaints and enforcing compliance through negotiation or prosecution.

9. Preparing reports and making recommendations for action at relevant committee meetings.

10. Supervising and allocating work, monitoring performance, and identifying training needs of Assistant Building Control officers and Technical Assistant.

11. Deputising for the Building Control Manager in their absence.

12. Being available for advice or attendance at hazardous sites outside office hours in case of emergencies.

Essential qualifications and experience:

  • Full membership of CABE or RICS (Building Control)
  • 5 years' experience in the building control sector
  • Detailed knowledge of building construction
  • Previous experience in a Local Authority Building Control office
  • Excellent knowledge of Building Regulations
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency in IT skills
  • Full driving licence and access to a car
  • Availability to attend work outside normal office hours in the event of an emergency
