Health and Safety Advisor

Location: Bury, Manchester

Salary: £35k - £40k  

A local food manufacturing company are now looking for a Health and Safety Advisor to join their team.

Health and Safety Advisor  - Purpose:  

To ensure that the all regulatory and compliance commitments are maintained  with health, safety and environmental regulations, legislation and policies and minimise occupational risk in the workplace.  Is an ambassador of the positive health & safety culture within the business to drive a safe working environment.

Health and Safety Advisor  - Main Duties:   

  • Drive a health & safety culture within the working environment to ensure all colleagues adhere to health & safety policies and procedures.
  • Develop, implement and monitor the Environmental and Safety Management System, procedures, documentation and audit system.
  • Responsible for undertaking EH&S compliance evaluations inspections and audits in line with requirements, co-ordinate outputs and liaise with site management to ensure action are completed.
  • Advise on the improvement to ways of working to , continuously improve EH&S standards within the company.
  • Identify risks and carry out appropriate risk assessments in all areas.  Work with colleagues to encourage a ‘near miss reporting’ culture.
  • Lead and participate in  detailed accident/incident investigations and reports, in accordance with relevant H&S legislation and regulations and ensure all notifiable accidents and incidents are reported to the HSE in the appropriate manner and in compliance with the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995 (RIDDOR).
  • Produce regular reports and statistics on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.
  • Work with, and alongside, colleagues in a supportive role to increase awareness and develop their confidence of health & safety within their roles.
  • Monitor and investigate accidents/near misses and review statistics to establish underlying causes, identify trends and recommend corrective action where necessary.
  • Develop and maintain an up-to-date knowledge of best practice and developments in workplace H&S legislation, procedures and safe systems of work.
  • Advise on a range of specialist areas such as first aid, fire regulations, hazardous substances, PUWER, etc.   
  • Promote and coordinate environmental management and sustainability where practical.

Health and Safety Advisor  - Person Specification:

The ideal candidate MUST come from the manufacturing industry as a Health and Safety Advisor.  You will also have the following skills, qualifications and experience:

  • Hold a minimum of a NEBOSH General Certificate
  • Ideally be a member of IOSH
  • Ideally come from a food manufacturing background but not essential
  • It would also be beneficial to have HACCP Level 3
