Bury Council are looking for two Rent Income Advisors to join the team and play a crucial role in managing and recovering rent arrears, supporting tenants, and ensuring the financial stability of our housing services. This temporary position is ideal for someone with a strong background in financial advisory and tenant support.
Day-to-day of the role:- Monitor current arrears cases and ensure prompt action is taken, including legal action where necessary, to control and recover outstanding arrears.
- Support tenants to maximise their income through welfare benefit advice, housing benefits, and guidance on debt management.
- Collect and manage rent arrears and other charges, including former tenant arrears, service charges, and garage rent, using housing management systems.
- Work closely with customers experiencing financial difficulties to identify the reasons for debt, offer advice, and negotiate payment agreements.
- Prepare legal documentation for court related to rent arrears and represent the organisation in legal proceedings.
- Conduct tenant interviews, including home visits, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures and offering tailor-made solutions.
- Oversee evictions and manage court orders to ensure compliance with terms and directives within specified timescales.
- Provide cover for the Assistant Rent Control Advisor as needed.
- Maintain accurate and quality tenant information in housing management systems.
- Proven experience in rent collection, debt recovery, or a similar financial advisory role.
- Strong understanding of welfare benefits, housing benefits, and debt management.
- Ability to negotiate and mediate effectively between parties.
- Experience in preparing legal documentation and representing cases in court.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working compassionately with individuals in financial distress.
- Proficient in using housing management systems and maintaining accurate records.
