The salary for this permanent Advanced EDT Practitioner/Social Worker job is up to £52,807 per annum.

Main Duties:

  • Participate in the Emergency Duty Team (EDT) rota, covering a mix of shifts including evenings, overnight, weekends, and bank holidays.
  • Respond to calls from local authority colleagues, external agencies, and the public, assessing and prioritising cases to determine the appropriate level of response.
  • Assess and manage risk in referrals, determining the need for protection and deciding the most suitable intervention.
  • Utilise available services and resources to provide emergency social work support to individuals and families until regular office hours resume.
  • Liaise with statutory and voluntary agencies as needed to ensure optimal outcomes for service users.
  • Maintain accurate written records of work undertaken using appropriate forms, following required administrative and monitoring procedures.
  • Communicate effectively in writing with daytime colleagues and, where needed, with other agencies about work completed.
  • Encourage clients to make informed decisions and participate in their immediate care plans, ensuring their views are understood and respected by service providers.
  • Develop effective relationships with clients, families, and carers through clear, respectful communication, while maintaining confidentiality in line with council policies.
  • Participate in meetings with clients, families, carers, and other professionals, contributing to collaborative decision-making.

Requirements of the Approved Mental Health Practitioner/Advanced EDT Practitioner:

  • Degree in Social Work, Mental Health Nursing, Occupational Therapy, or a related field.
  • Registration with Social Work England, NMC, or HCPC.
  • Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) qualification.
  • Extensive post-qualifying experience in mental health, crisis intervention, or emergency social work services.
  • Experience working in an Emergency Duty Team (EDT) or Crisis Team is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of Mental Health Act (MHA), Mental Capacity Act (MCA), Care Act 2014, and safeguarding frameworks.
  • Ability to make high-risk, time-sensitive decisions under pressure.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary and multi-agency settings.
