Overview of the Role
I am looking for a full-time Homeless Outreach Worker to support individuals who are rough sleeping or at risk of homelessness. This role will involve engaging with people out on the streets, encouraging them to access supported accommodation and services. You will be providing person-centred support, helping individuals secure stable housing, meet their immediate needs, and guide them toward a more sustainable and fulfilling life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work directly in the community, engaging with rough sleepers
  • Promote independence and healthy lifestyles
  • Support individuals dealing with complex needs, including mental health, substance abuse, and homelessness
  • Collaborate with external agencies to provide holistic support
  • Make quick decisions and referrals when needed, and assist in crisis situations

Important Considerations

  • Early starts: You will be required to do at least two early starts each week, beginning at 6am and ending at 2pm. The role may involve being out walking for hours at a time, dealing with referrals and responding to rough sleepers. You may need to climb over fences or navigate difficult terrain to reach sleep sites.
  • Shift Flexibility: As outreach shifts can vary week to week, flexibility is essential. You may not have consistent days for early shifts.
  • Physical & Mental Demands: The role is both physically and mentally demanding. Candidates must be able to manage the challenges of working with individuals in difficult situations and maintaining resilience in the face of tough working conditions.
  • Experience: Experience in homelessness or related sectors would be beneficial, especially for dealing with difficult situations and liaising with various professionals. However, we are willing to consider candidates with a positive attitude, and the ability to demonstrate how they would handle complex situations during the interview.
  • Contract Duration: The contract runs until March 2026, with a strong possibility of extension based on funding and service needs.

Is Your Current Role Related?
We encourage applicants with experience in sectors such as Criminal Justice, Police, Prison & Probation, or Children & Young People's services. If you have worked with ex-offenders, individuals at risk of re-offending, young people or young adults who have experienced gang violence, or care leavers, this role could be a great fit for you.
