Your new school
Hays are recruiting a Full-Time Teaching Assistant in Caerphilly County to work within a mainstream secondary school's special educational needs department. The school caters for pupils aged 11-18 and offers mainstream and ALN support. The role will involve supporting 12-14-year-old students with additional learning needs in a small, specialised class. The school prides itself on its ability to support the individual development of each of its pupils through the positive learning environment created by its staff who are passionate and committed. The school aims to help their pupils to become ambitious, informed, and prepared young individuals.
Your new role.
The role is confirmed long-term for an immediate start, working 5 days a week. Duties relating to this role include but are not limited to:

  • Working with small groups of year 8 and 9 students with additional learning needs.
  • Encouraging engagement in, and supporting with academic work.
  • Working closely as part of a team with other members of the teaching staff.
  • Assisting teachers as they implement their lesson plans.
  • Creating a safe and enjoyable learning environment.
  • Demonstrating high levels of patience and empathy when dealing with potentially challenging behaviour.


What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for this role, it is required that you possess at least 40 days of relevant experience working with children over the course of the last 2 - 3 years. Some of the key attributes and skills needed for this role include patience, commitment, calmness, and the ability to solve problems effectively when working under pressure.
