Your new schoolHays are recruiting a Full-Time Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant in Caerphilly County for a fantastic SEN School which caters for pupils aged 3-19 with a variety of additional learning needs. This role will consist of working as a Teaching Assistant with small groups of students with ASD aged 8-12 with a variety of difficult behaviours and some mobility issues, both related to their additional needs. The class is welcoming and features a caring and supportive teaching team who are eager to welcome a new member. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a highly regarded and well-respected special needs school, renowned for the positive and supportive environment their passionate and hardworking staff create, as well as the excellent teaching facilities they possess. Your new roleThe role is confirmed long-term for an immediate start subject to clearance, working 5 days a week. The school is also looking for part-time staff, as well as those available before the end of this academic year. The school are eager to offer trial days throughout the coming weeks ahead of the close of this academic year. Duties relating to this role include but are not limited to:

  • Working as a Teaching Assistant with small groups of students with ASD aged 8-12 with a variety of difficult behaviours and some mobility issues.
  • Demonstrating high levels of patience and empathy when dealing with challenging behaviour.
  • Creating and maintaining a safe, positive, and enjoyable learning environment even when placed under pressure.
  • Working closely as part of a quick, efficient, and consistent team with other members of the teaching staff to provide the best care possible for the pupils.
  • Assisting teachers when implementing their lesson plans by ensuring that the children are engaged and cared for throughout.
  • Supporting in other classes if needed on an ad-hoc basis.

What you'll need to succeedTo be considered for this role, it is required that you possess at least 40 days of relevant experience working or volunteering within a school over the course of the last 2 - 3 years. Some of the key attributes and skills needed for this role include empathy, patience, and calmness. Further desired traits include responsiveness, problem-solving skills, commitment, and a high degree of motivation.A desired qualification is to be Team Teach trained.
