Senior Commercial Manager (Major Projects)

 

Location: Hybrid (Office location either Camberley or Burscough)

Job Title: Major Projects Senior Commercial Manager

Department: Major Projects

Reporting to: Major Projects Director

Company: Red Sky Personnel (recruiting on behalf of a leading international company specialising in geotechnical and civil engineering services)

 

Main Purpose of the Role:

To support the major projects' commercial teams in delivering optimal commercial outcomes by maximising opportunities and minimising risk exposure. This role involves engaging with project teams to ensure proper contract management through site visits and fostering a culture of excellence through leadership, communication, and training.

Key Tasks:

  • Support the Major Projects team with live contracts, especially the senior leadership teams.
  • Provide contractual guidance to assist project teams as required.
  • Assist with key claims, compensation events, and early warnings pursued by the teams.
  • Monitor project financial and commercial reporting to assess site performance (profitability, opportunity, and risk) and report monthly to the Major Projects Director.
  • Collaborate with site teams on monthly forecasting for review.
  • Promote team development to enhance the competency of all commercial team members.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients and attend senior meetings.
  • Support the Projects tender team by ensuring contract reviews are completed, key risks and opportunities identified, and commercial governance documentation is prepared.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead initiatives that drive positive commercial outcomes on live projects.
  • Monitor and review the profitability of each project, highlighting concerns or opportunities.
  • Provide timely advice to teams as necessary.
  • Identify and drive improvement initiatives aligned with the business's strategic needs.
  • Contribute to the tender process and participate in risk review meetings.

Essential Personal Skills Required:

  • Strong focus on delivering excellent commercial management.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teams to identify improvement opportunities to increase profitability and manage risk.
  • Technical knowledge of various contract forms, particularly NEC Contracts, and experience with large infrastructure projects.
  • Senior commercial experience within the construction industry.
  • Excellent people management skills and a proven track record in supporting construction teams.
  • Team player with an approachable demeanor, regardless of responsibility levels.
  • Full driving license and willingness to work nationally throughout the UK.
  • Strong industry connections and relationships with potential clients.

 

Other Duties:

  • Monitor the commercial performance of live contracts.
  • Develop and report on key performance indicators.
  • Assess leading and retrospective behavioral indicators.
  • Participate in engagement tours with sites.
  • Review training needs for project team members.
  • Evaluate site commercial procedures and processes.
  • Promote and share lessons learned.
  • Assist in development reviews.
