Principal Systems Engineer

Frimley - 2-3 days on site per week

£55,000 - £65,000 + Benefits: Overtime, 14% pension, 25 days holiday, free shares and more!

Our client, an established defence engineering firm, are seeking an experienced Princpal Systems Engineer to join their team and take the lead on project initiatives as the product progresses through the lifecycle.

What the role of the Principal Systems Engineer entails:

  • Lead the development of the system model, championing the adoption of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) within the programme
  • Assist the Engineering Manager with key engineering tasks and activities
  • Support the development of design solutions to complex technical problems against the agreed time, cost and quality
  • Support the development and management of Combat Systems requirements
  • Ensure design proving evidence is comprehensive, captured within the requirements management tools and has been endorsed by the appropriate level of authority
  • Understand the contractual and performance requirements for Combat Systems and support the definition and associated acceptance criteria and events through design, build, integration, installation and commissioning activities
  • Provide technical support to integrated performance and acceptance activities, including acceptance of equipment from suppliers through to system acceptance by the customer
  • Work with various engineering teams to improve own levels of domain knowledge and subject matter expertise
  • Guiding and supporting more junior members of the team

What experience you need to be the successful Principal Systems Engineer:

Essential

  • Background within a STEM Subject
  • Specific Systems Engineering experience and experience using tools such as IBM DOORS and Enterprise Architect
  • Proven ability to solve problems
  • Extensive Stakeholder management skills at all levels with the ability to influence

Desirable

  • Chartered Engineer, or actively working towards this
  • Experience in leading small teams
  • Experience in relevant industry
