Salary range (35k – 40k per annum)

Location: Cambridge

Our client is a multidisciplinary environmental consultancy seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Senior Ecologist, with at least 4/5 years’ experience (or similar)

This role is primarily office based with the opportunity to WFH 1 -2 days per week.

If the candidates meet 80% or more of what we are looking for, we still want to hear about them please.  We understand not everyone will meet all the requirements, but they might have the transferable skills or other skills we need. Our client also offers in-house and external training to learn how to use unfamiliar software.

Qualifications:

Candidate will have a BSc in Ecology (or similar)

Position based on experience/licence ability

BSc Ecology (or similar)

MSc Environment (or equivalent)

Associate CIEEM progressing to Full CIEEM

Responsibility

  • Leading team members
  • Managing minor aspects of team
  • Planning & Resourcing surveys
  • Undertaking full range of surveys, including specialist aspects
  • Produce full range of reports, including specialist
  • Support business development
  • Client liaison, including larger/detailed projects
  • Beginning to mentor more junior staff

Technical Skills:

  • Specialist in PEA/UK Habitat Survey, included complex sites & rarer habitats
  • Ability to undertake a full range of protected species survey competently and efficiently
  • Ability to undertake specialist surveys
  • Proficient in specialism
  • Hold protected species licences (Basic GCN & Dormouse, specialist i.e. Bat)
  • Demonstrable knowledge of EU/UK legislation and planning policy
  • Clearly understands industry standards
  • Developing management & professional skills (outside of ecological technical ability)
  • Experience with a range of sectors, proficient in one or two, including a more diverse category (i.e. Quarry, Rail, Road, Energy, Industrial)
  • Proficient with all aspects of data collation, interpretation and analysis
  • Proficient mapping ability (including GIS or similar)
  • Competent report writing skills, can complete a range of reports to a high standard, efficiently.  Developing specialism in certain aspect of reports (i.e. EIA)
  • Can peer review more junior staff reports, and assist with the design of templates
  • Providing regular input to fees & tenders
  • Providing input into budget/time management of projects
  • Responsible for regular client/business interaction
  • Able to confidently address client questions regarding course of action, survey requirements, mitigation options etc. with minimal input from PM
  • Assisting with winning work/sourcing new clients
  • Responsible for all team aspects of health & safety
