Senior Research Scientist

Cpl Life Sciences are partnering with a clinical-stage biopharma company to recruit for a Senior Research Scientist in the Cambridge area. The successful candidate will assist in the development of microbiology and molecular assays to support microbiome therapies for ulcerative colitis and oncology, focusing on characterizing gut bacteria for live bacterial therapeutics.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and perform QPCR assays to measure bacteria in clinical trial samples.

• Create and optimize quality control assays for bacterial drug production.

• Characterize gut bacteria to understand their mechanisms in the gastrointestinal tract.

• Support the development of live bacterial therapeutics for regulatory approval.

• Provide microbiology expertise across different teams.

• Oversee day-to-day lab operations and guide junior team members.

Required Qualifications:

• PhD in Microbiology or a related field (or equivalent experience).

• Ability to work independently and manage experiments from design to execution.

• Strong organizational skills and ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary team.

• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

• Flexibility to adapt in a dynamic environment.

• Creative and proactive approach to work.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with anaerobic bacteria and QPCR assays.

• Knowledge of Health & Safety procedures, including Risk Assessments.

• Experience in an industrial or GxP environment.
