Your new companyYou will be joining a world leading research institute based in the Cambridge area - who have a wide range of partnerships within academia and pharmaceutical & biotech companies - focusing on research within cancer.The institution has invested heavily in equipment and lab upgrades and fosters a highly collaborative and friendly work environment, where you will be working with leading experts within cancer and biological research.They also offer very generous benefits, a flexible approach to working and make significant investment into the training and development of their staff, so there will be a number of opportunities to develop new and advance existing skills.Your new roleYou will be joining a prestigious research group working with some of the leading scientists in the genetics field carrying out research work to identify new approaches to tackle cancer.Main responsibilities will include:

  • Lead innovative research in molecular biology to uncover fundamental mechanisms related to genetic and protein functions in cancer.
  • Investigate interactions between modified bases and proteins, focusing on their impact on genome functions like transcription and chromatin organisation.
  • Develop new techniques to study the dynamics of modified bases and their binding proteins, utilising chemical and genetic approaches.
  • Analyse genetic/genomic and other omics data sets to provide insights and use these to design future experiments.
  • Explore genetic targets for synthetic lethality opportunities in cancer.
  • Manage your own research projects while collaborating with others, ensuring meticulous record-keeping and resource management.
  • Share your findings through presentations and publications, and help to mentor PhD students.

What you'll need to succeedAs well as strong communication and organisational skills, you should have:

  • A PhD (or be nearing completion) in molecular biology, biochemistry, cancer genomics, or related fields, or significant equivalent experience
  • Proficiency in molecular biology techniques, including RNA/DNA analysis, PCR, protein analysis, and western blotting.
  • Advanced cloning skills, with experience in genetic engineering, vector construction, and CRISPR/Cas9 systems.
  • Expertise in recombinant protein design and expression, utilising systems like E. coli, along with purification methods such as FPLC and mass spectrometry.
  • Familiarity with genomic technologies like ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, and single-cell methods, preferably within oncology research, though this is not essential.
