Day Nursery Deputy Manager

Location: Cambridge, CB3 9JZ    

Salary: £32,500 - £34,500 per annum

Hours: The full time nursery staff work 5 days, Monday to Friday between 8:15 am- 5:15pm.

Our client has an exciting opportunity to become part of the leadership team in a brand-new children's day nursery in central Cambridge. The new nursery property is undergoing conversion in Cambridge and the target date for opening is April/May 2025. It will be registered for 44 children and open from 08:30 - 17:00. The new nursery will be managed by a company who are a highly regarded and successful in Cambridgeshire. The successful candidate will start their Company induction at another site in Cambridge, (as soon as available) in preparation for relocation to the new site opening in April/May 2025.

Each nursery follows the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and encompasses a child centered approach to play and learning. They adopt and work towards a creative curriculum, a passion for open ended investigation and positive outdoor experiences. Their aim is to create within each of their settings; an outstanding place for children to be well cared for and to flourish within play and learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Building positive and trusting relationships with children and outstanding parent partnerships, including producing and sharing a weekly information sheet for families
  • Providing a safe, hygienic, caring and stimulating environment for the children, following relevant safeguarding training where required
  • Ensuring that the physical, emotional, social and intellectual education and care provided to children is of the highest standard.
  • Leading the implementation of the relevant curriculum, including important aspects of their childcare ethos, such as, storytelling, respectful care and the Forest School approach
  • Inspiring fun, inspirational and educational play and learning opportunities
  • Effectively managing the day to day running of this outstanding nursery in the absence of the Nursery Manager
  • Ensuring the accuracy of the daily register & staff rota
  • Maintaining accurate accounts for the nursery and produce management information when required
  • Promoting the nursery to current and potential customers
  • Assisting with recruiting, supporting, inducting, training and appraising all staff, to ensure high quality childcare practice and to develop staff teams and individual practitioners (including chairing regular staff meetings)
  • Working closely with the Nursery Manager, directors of the nursery and development manager, creating development plans for the nursery
  • Working in consultation with HR in Disciplinary and Grievance investigations and meetings with regard to staff
  • Implementing Health and Safety policies within the nursery and support from Risk Management team
  • Working with the area SENCOs, EYFS advisors, and other health professionals

Skills and Qualifications

  • A full and relevant Early Years & Childcare qualification at level 3 (Early Years Educator) is required for this role as a minimum
  • Early Years & Childcare experience is also required
