Salary: £36,750Annual Leave: 27 Days + Bank Holidays+ A range of additional benefits!I’m excited to be recruiting for a Senior IT Engineer on behalf of a prestigious and historic college in Cambridge.As the Senior IT Engineer, you will take a lead role in the design, implementation, and maintenance of the College’s IT infrastructure, providing critical support to students, staff, Fellows, and guests. You will need strong technical expertise, alongside excellent communication skills, to deliver high-quality, customer-focused support. Working both independently and collaboratively, you will play a key part in ensuring the IT systems operate smoothly, securely, and efficiently.Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as system owner and administrator for infrastructure, including networks (wired/wireless, VPNs), Microsoft/Office 365 environments, storage solutions, and virtualisation.
  • Provide support for Microsoft Server, Linux, and desktop operating systems.
  • Ensure cyber security standards are met, including security patching, monitoring, and incident response.
  • Lead Disaster Recovery, backup planning, and business continuity testing.
  • Monitor IT performance, proactively managing capacity issues.
  • Collaborate with the IT Manager on strategic projects and oversee operational IT projects.
  • Make informed purchasing recommendations in line with College policies.
  • Support IT helpdesk services, assisting the IT & AV Engineer in providing user support to students, staff, and guests.
  • Document support requests, maintain the knowledgebase, and ensure clear communication with users.
  • Participate in out-of-hours support as part of an on-call rota.
  • Ensure compliance with industry best practices, data protection, and information security standards.
  • Provide technical input to the development of IT systems standards and strategies.
  • Collaborate with central university IT services and support intercollegiate tasks.
Experience Required:
  • Previous experience in delivering 2nd line IT support.
  • Experience managing networks (HP Aruba switches, FortiGate firewalls, VLANs, NAC), and cloud services (Azure, Office 365).
  • Strong technical expertise with IT systems, including Microsoft Server, Active Directory, Linux, and virtualisation technologies.
  • Proactive in addressing issues and managing helpdesk requests efficiently.
  • Experience in educational or commercial IT environments is an advantage.
