Business Development Director | Cambridge | £NEG  

A well-established white-label manufacturer part of a multi-billion Dollar corporation exporting 98% of its products to leading global brands, is seeking a Business Development Director to join a highly motivated and successful team. This is a pivotal role to develop business growth and paths to new markets whilst nurturing and growing existing business partners.

Ideally you will be Degree qualified or Apprentice trained in Engineering/Manufacturing/Marketing or similar calibre/QBE with 10 years plus exposure within a full life cycle engineering manufacturing and AM environment with sales or marketing demonstrating proven commercial success in the exploitation of new technologies and building strong commercial relationships. You’ll possess an affable, commercially astute approach with gravitas and excellent interpersonal skills to motivate, develop and mentor internally and externally with strong communication and presentation abilities.

Reporting to the Managing Director, you will lead all business development, commercial and marketing functions, with particular focus on developing the commercialisation of new disruptive additive technologies currently under development. You will provide leadership to the commercial team, track competences to meet objectives, ensuring the talent within the organization is developed and mentored to support the needs of individuals and the business. You will be an instrumental key player within the senior team in continuing the drive for commercialization of our innovation, and operational excellence across the business, with potential for a higher-level leadership role within the organisation in the future.

Key responsibilities:

Business Development and Commercial:

  • Establish a standard of commercial leadership excellence to support purpose priorities & strategic vision
  • Develop and implement strategic commercial plans that deliver strong year-on-year sales growth
  • Develop and build on close relationships with key players within our customer base
  • Regular contact face to face contact involving with a minimum of 30% International travel  
  • Drive alignment and prioritisation of commercial strategies and plans
  • Drive exploitation of new disruptive technologies
  • Deliver sales projects and initiatives to completion, providing regular status reports
  • Create and execute strategic demand initiatives targeting short and longer-term results
  • Conduct market and user-based research to understand strategic, tactical, and commercial opportunities
  • Work collaboratively with Brand/Product/Marketing/Sales and Jobsite Solutions Teams
  • Participate in key end user, distributor, and partner meetings to gain insight and strategic leverage
  • Attend trade shows, seminars, and other industry events to stay abreast of market and industry trends

Product Management and Marketing:

  • Working with the Managing Director and Group, develop a rolling 3-year strategy plan to grow sales
  • Proactively manage the portfolio of products within the category(s)
  • Implement, monitor strategies for product positioning, forecasting, cost reduction product obsolescence
  • Lead, interact, collaborate & deliver globally with various cross functional team’s objectives on schedule
  • Assess & analyse new business or product opportunities to articulate to management recommendations
  • Analyze competitor propositions, pricing strategies, positioning portfolio favorably against competition
  • Work collaboratively with Engineering ensuring NPD is meeting all the required targets are met
  • Develop comprehensive commercial plans to support all new product launches
  • Deliver quarterly and annual budget through brand & channel marketing programs and promotions  
  • Promote categories in key customer presentations, line reviews, editorial visits/interviews & trade shows
  • Act as the internal and external focal point for the resolution of product issues within the category(s)
  • Maintain competitive & market database with catalogues, price lists, promotions, NPI & regulatory issues
  • Monitor, report on product sales and margin stats and trends to ensure the business is delivering to plan
