Buying Manager

A leading fresh produce company is seeking an experienced Buying Manager to join their growing business in Cambridgeshire. This permanent role offers a salary range of 40,000 to 45,000 per annum, with a start date as soon as possible. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the procurement of fruit from global suppliers, focusing on grapes and citrus. Key responsibilities include:
- Agreeing timely programmes with suppliers ahead of each season
- Conducting end-of-year performance reviews
- Liaising with suppliers on shipping programmes and seasonal issues
- Collaborating with technical colleagues on documentation and due diligence
- Producing weekly programmes for Spanish supply and purchase orders for deep-sea shipments
- Managing stock efficiently to minimise waste and limit dwell times
- Ensuring margin delivery through returns management and adherence to Terms of Trade
- Working with finance to process advance payments to suppliers as needed
The ideal candidate should possess:
- Experience in produce procurement, particularly in grapes and/or citrus
- Knowledge of supplier relationship management in a commercial environment
- Up-to-date understanding of import regulations and DEFRA requirements
- Excellent communication and influencing skills
- CIPS qualification (advantageous)
- Strong negotiation and problem-solving abilities
- A results-driven approach with team development skills
