Buying Manager

A leading fresh produce company is seeking an experienced Buying Manager to join their growing business in Cambridgeshire. This permanent role offers a salary range of 40,000 to 45,000 per annum, with a start date as soon as possible. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the procurement of fruit from global suppliers, focusing on grapes and citrus. Key responsibilities include:

  • Agreeing timely programmes with suppliers ahead of each season
  • Conducting end-of-year performance reviews
  • Liaising with suppliers on shipping programmes and seasonal issues
  • Collaborating with technical colleagues on documentation and due diligence
  • Producing weekly programmes for Spanish supply and purchase orders for deep-sea shipments
  • Managing stock efficiently to minimise waste and limit dwell times
  • Ensuring margin delivery through returns management and adherence to Terms of Trade
  • Working with finance to process advance payments to suppliers as needed

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • Experience in produce procurement, particularly in grapes and/or citrus
  • Knowledge of supplier relationship management in a commercial environment
  • Up-to-date understanding of import regulations and DEFRA requirements
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills
  • CIPS qualification (advantageous)
  • Strong negotiation and problem-solving abilities
  • A results-driven approach with team development skills
