Polytec are looking for a Senior Laboratory Technician to join our Cambridge based client. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high level technical support to other lab users as well as ensuring the smooth operation of the lab facilities and equipment.
Responsibilities:
* Construct and maintain highly complex research apparatus including optical, electronic, CNC, mechanical and vacuum equipment
* Provide specialist technical support to a wide variety of lab users
* Ensure the labs are kept clean and tidy and the equipment well maintained
* Develop new or improved methods of testing and make sure SOP's are kept up to date
* Diagnose and repair faults on equipment finding optimal solutions for minimum time and cost
* Contribute towards ensuring safety regulations are followed, conduct risk assessments and instruct lab users on correct health and safety procedures
Requirements:
* Ideally qualified to at least HNC level in a relevant discipline
* Practical experience of specialised laboratory activity and equipment, particularly in design and construction of experimental equipment
* Knowledge of optical and/or electronics, cryogenic and pressure equipment
* Able to provide training to users, both in groups and on a 1-1 basis
* Experienced in equipment maintenance
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Good IT skills
