Principal Urban Designer Job in Cambridge, East Anglia

Principal Urban Designer job to be a part of a consultancy with an ambitious 3-year growth plan and a robust project pipeline across residential, renewable energy, and community sectors. With a need to expand at all levels - from Intermediate to Principal/ Associate - this Cambridge-based role offers a competitive package (37 days total holiday, profit-related bonus scheme, 7% employer pension contribution) and the chance to shape meaningful projects in a team-driven, innovative environment.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Develop masterplans for projects of varying sizes, from concept through outline and reserved matters planning applications.
  • Take a lead role in the management of projects
  • Work on large-scale masterplans and residential layout design primarily and other complex projects across various sectors
  • Create strategic documents, such as vision statements and design codes, to guide and protect project development.
  • Work directly with clients
  • Collaborate with the Urbanism team and manage small teams, while also working independently.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Qualifications: Degree, Masters, or Diploma in Urban Design, Architecture, or a related field within the Built Environment.
  • Possess a minimum of 4 years of UK project experience
  • Prior experience in private practice, consultancy, or commercial housebuilding; detailed design/RMA experience preferred
  • Proficiency in CAD software; knowledge of Vector Works and/or SketchUp is a plus
  • Familiarity with local authority guidelines and planning systems
  • Self-driven, detail-oriented, with strong communication skills for effective collaboration.
