About the Role:
We are looking for a reliable and experienced General Foreman to join a busy highways project in Cambridge, starting early May. The role is working day shifts and is offered as a 4-month initial contract, with strong potential for extension. This position is inside IR35.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee daily on-site operations, ensuring work is delivered safely, on time, and to spec.
Manage site crews and subcontractors, ensuring productivity and quality standards are met.
Supervise key highways activities including carriageway construction, S278 works, roundabouts, drainage, and surfacing.
Support the Site Agent and engineering team with planning, coordination, and reporting.
Maintain site diaries and ensure accurate daily records are kept.
Ensure full compliance with health & safety policies and procedures.
Drive a strong safety and quality-first culture across the workforce.
Liaise with subcontractors, suppliers, and other on-site personnel as required.
Essential Experience:
Proven experience as a General Foreman on highways or civil infrastructure projects.
Hands-on experience with carriageway works, drainage, surfacing, and S278 schemes (including roundabouts).
Strong leadership and communication skills - able to manage crews effectively.
Good understanding of construction drawings, programmes, and specifications.
Strong focus on site safety and compliance.
Desirable Qualifications/Certs:
SSSTS or SMSTS
CSCS Supervisor or Manager Card
First Aid at Work
NRSWA (desirable)
