In-House Patent Attorney - Cambridge, Hybrid (2-3 Days Office Based) - Up to £110k + Benefits

Are you a proficient UK and European qualified Patent Attorney with expertise in engineering, physics, or mechanical devices? Do you thrive in a fast-paced, innovative environment where intellectual property (IP) plays a crucial role in shaping technology-driven products?

Our client, a pioneering technology company based in the Cambridge region, is looking for an In-House Patent Attorney to contribute to its expanding IP portfolio. This is a fantastic opportunity to work at the cutting edge of innovation, collaborating closely with technical, commercial, and legal teams to develop and protect groundbreaking technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take ownership of IP and legal matters for one or more product areas at various stages of development.
  • Draft and prosecute patents in the UK, Europe, and internationally, working directly with external counsel as needed.
  • Conduct patent searches and advise on third-party patent rights.
  • Support the company's IP strategy, risk mitigation, and decision-making on patent filing and maintenance.
  • Assist in invention capture, ensuring innovation is properly protected.
  • Contribute to the continued development of IP processes, systems, and best practices.
  • Prepare IP-related reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Option to expand into IP licensing and commercial agreements, depending on interest.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • UK and European qualified Patent Attorney, with a minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience.
  • Strong technical background - degree or higher in engineering, physics, or a similar field.
  • Excellent patent drafting skills and a practical, commercial approach to IP.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical device design and physics.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborative mindset - able to build strong working relationships across teams.
