About the Role:
As a Mental Health Nurse, you will play a key role in providing compassionate and comprehensive care to individuals with diverse needs, including learning difficulties, complex care requirements, mental health challenges, dementia, and care needs for older adults. Your role will focus on building trust, enhancing self-awareness, and supporting patients to achieve the best possible outcomes for their mental and physical health.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess patients' mental health needs through interviews, observations, and clinical assessments.
  • Develop, implement, and review care plans in collaboration with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Administer medications and monitor their effects, ensuring proper documentation.
  • Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation support during emergencies.
  • Build trusting relationships with patients to encourage open communication.
  • Offer counselling and therapy to individuals and groups to address specific issues like anxiety, depression, or trauma.
  • Educate patients and families on coping mechanisms and available resources.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Liaise with external agencies, community services, and support groups to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Advocate for patients to secure the necessary services and accommodations.
  • Keep detailed, accurate records of patient interactions, progress, and treatment plans.
  • Monitor and report changes in patients' conditions to the healthcare team.
  • Ensure compliance with ethical, professional, and legal standards.
  • Develop and nurture strong, supportive relationships with patients, providing reassurance, encouragement, and guidance.
  • Offer advice, arrange additional support, and assist in addressing the needs of both patients and their families.
  • Ensure prescribed medications are administered accurately and safely.
  • Keep detailed, accurate, and up-to-date records of patient care and treatment.
  • Support patients in engaging with therapeutic activities that promote their mental and emotional well-being.
