This is a great opportunity for a graduate in a biochemistry related degree looking for their first role in the industry. 0-2 years industry experience is required for this role.

This role is for The Cell Engineering group, based in Cambridge UK, it is a pivotal member of Mammalian Expression System Centre, focused on improving host cell line functionality through cutting edge science and technology innovations. As a Technologist - Cell Engineering you will support the delivery of R&D projects.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Contribute to the delivery of new mammalian expression hosts and vector systems for the expression of complex therapeutic proteins.
  • Engineer mammalian cell lines (e.g. random integration, targeted integration and gene editing - e.g. CRISPR-based systems).
  • Generate mammalian expression vectors using state of the art assembly techniques.
  • Phenotypic characterisation of edited cell lines with relevant assays (e.g. NGS, ddPCR, qPCR and flow cytometry) and cell culture techniques (e.g., shake flask/ bioreactor).
  • Collate, analyse, evaluate and sign-off data to produce good quality information and traceable records under the direction of the project lead.
  • Presentation of results in written and oral reports.
  • Work closely with other groups within R&D to deliver solutions or improvements in recombinant protein expression (in particular with R&D Process Development, Microbial Expression & Protein Analytics)
  • Actively keep abreast of relevant academic literature (e.g., in the field of cell engineering and expression technologies).

Candidate Requirements:

  • BSc/MSc Degree in Life Sciences / Science/ Molecular Biology
  • Practical experience within in an industrial/academic setting is desirable.
  • Good technical background in molecular biology (electrophoresis, PCR, vector construction) and cell culture (preferably mammalian cells) with the aim of developing or manipulating mammalian expression systems.
  • Clear demonstration of strong technical skills, scientific execution and data analysis.
  • A proactive attitude to working and solving challenging problems.
  • Good working knowledge of statistics and expertise in design of

  • Good understanding of synthetic biology technologies would be desirable.
