Job Summary

The Assistant Quantity Surveyor will proactively support the QS/Senior QS on the successful commercial, financial and contractual control of all elements of the projects. To maximise the companys profitability, protect the companies legal and contractual obligations under the contract and to manage proactively the control of all commercial issues. This is to include assisting with the preparation and administration of monthly applications and sub-contractor account in line with contractual obligations and commitments to subcontractors. In addition, the support and assistance in ensuring cost reports and the like are managed, completed on time and monitors. To understand and adhere the commercial departments systems and procedures, as well as the companys SHEQ strategy.



Duties & Responsibilities

  • Compliance and achievement of project, procedures, personal targets and initiatives.
  • Promote a sense of Teamwork with your Operational equivalent.
  • Understand and promote the company values and procedures.
  • Proactively contribute to the project team.
  • Build working relationships with supply chain, consultants and clients where appropriate.
  • Work with project team to achieve or exceed budgeted target.
  • Identify potential disputes in a timely manner to Line Manager.
  • Place supply chain orders in accordance with the procurement schedule/ systems and procedures.
  • Ensure subcontract orders accurately reflect the main contract requirements and scope of works.
  • Accurately value, certify and issue any relevant payment notices for the subcontract works in accordance with the conditions of their subcontract.
  • Ensure that external valuations are submitted in accordance with conditions of the main contract and that payments are received by the due date.
  • Assist in the preparation of CVR/Forecast reports, ensuring they accurately reflect the current position on site and the final profit projection.
  • Promote timely and equitable resolution of client and supply chain final accounts.
  • Provide early warning of future financial problems and ensure accurate real time reporting.
  • Manage and minimise non recoverable costs on projects.
  • Working collaboratively and communicating effectively with other areas of the business to provide exceptional support.
  • To work to the Companys Quality, Environmental and Safety Management System standards and performance criteria including delivering the objectives set.
  • To co-operate on matters of health and safety and follow the training provided.To take reasonable care of personal and others health and safety at all times.
  • Any other duties consistent with the role of Assistant Quantity Surveyor as may be required from time to time.




Qualifications/Experience

Essential

  • HND or working towards a Degree in Quantity Surveying or appropriate alternative.
  • Industry experience in the role of an Assistant Quantity Surveyor.
  • Valid driving licence.


Proven experience of:

  • Procurement management.
  • Knowledge of relevant computer software such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Microsoft Project.
  • Re-measurement.
  • Financial/cost control.
  • Up to date relevant knowledge of building legislation and construction industry.
  • Min 3 years of work experience in the construction industry.
  • Reading and accurately interpreting drawings and specifications.
  • An understanding of contract law.
  • Ability to remain positive and focused at all times.
  • Demonstrates an effective system of managing priorities and ones self.
  • Good verbal communication and numerical skills.
  • Playing an active role which positively contributed to a team.
  • Interacting with site team.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Working to deadline.
  • Being organised.
  • Post graduate experience within a surveying position reporting to either a senior surveyor or a commercial manager.
  • Good level of education to include 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above, A Levels.


Desirable

  • Working towards professional membership of MCIOB or RICS.
  • Appropriate CSCS card.
