Quantity Surveyor (£35K-£50K)
Location: Cambridge or Norwich
Role Overview
A Contracts Surveyor is required to ensure the effective commercial management and delivery of projects, maintaining high standards and meeting client requirements.
Reporting to the Commercial Manager, this role involves working within a team responsible for overseeing projects from pre-contract stages through to the end of the defects period. The successful candidate will manage multiple contracts simultaneously, ensuring cost efficiency and providing commercial support and mentorship to junior staff.
Projects typically value around £3m, with a general range between £1m and £6m.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
Perform effectively under pressure and manage competing priorities.
Conduct commercial assessments of sub-contract orders and provide feedback to the Commercial Manager.
Plan workloads efficiently and proactively.
Prepare applications and cash flow forecasts for project durations.
Develop and maintain pre-construction buying schedules for procurement, updating them monthly.
Evaluate and secure best-value procurement of sub-contract packages.
Draft robust sub-contract and principal plant orders, outlining the required scope of works.
Identify, capture, and value project variations in line with sub-contract terms.
Ensure accurate cost recording within the procurement system (COINS) and project buying schedule.
Review sub-contract applications and issue payment notices in accordance with contract terms.
Prepare and submit project applications in line with contractual requirements.
Produce monthly project forecast cost reports and trading reviews.
Generate and distribute commercial monthly project reports.
Complete monthly Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs) for all projects.
Compile detailed Extension of Time (EOT) submissions with supporting information.
Support operational teams with project account management.
Key Skills & Knowledge:
Essential:
- Familiarity with JCT and NEC contract suites.
Holds a current professionally qualified CSCS card or meets the eligibility criteria.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and system databases.
Full, clean driving licence.
Desirable:
- Background in Mechanical, Electrical, or Plumbing.
HNC or HND in Building Services.
Formal academic training in Quantity Surveying.
