Bereavement Services Officer - Temporary Contract

Location: The Crematorium, CB3 0JJ
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Duration: 4+ Months
Working Hours: Mon - Fri, 09:00 - 17:00, 37 hours per week
Pay Rate: 14.44 per hour

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Bereavement Services Officer to join the team at Cambridge Crematorium. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference by supporting families through one of life's most challenging moments.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Ensure the smooth operation of services in line with council policies, statutory legislation, and the ICCM Charter for the Bereaved.
  • Process bookings for burials, cremations, and memorial services, including managing payments and financial summaries.
  • Administer, position, and oversee installation of memorials and memorabilia.
  • Undertake minor repairs and maintenance, including memorial cleaning and safety inspections.
  • Act as a chapel attendant, ensuring music, visual aids, and other multimedia systems meet the needs of the bereaved during services.
  • Carry out witnessed and unwitnessed scattering of cremated remains, releasing remains to families or funeral directors.

  • A caring and professional demeanour.
  • Strong administrative skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and flexibly across teams and locations.
  • Sensitivity and discretion when interacting with bereaved families and visitors.
