Procurement Category Manager

Location: Cannock, Staffordshire

Salary: dependent on experience

It’s a pleasure to collaborate with a forward-thinking, expanding business in their search for a dynamic Category Manager to lead supply and stock management efforts. The successful candidate will be responsible for securing the best cost pricing for a specific procurement category, supporting business growth, and maximising profitability.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Negotiation & Pricing: Secure the best pricing from suppliers and prepare competitive quotations for the sales team.
  • Order Management: Place daily purchase orders for stock and non-stock items, ensuring timely delivery.
  • Monitoring & Scheduling: Track purchase orders to ensure they are on schedule and that deliveries are booked in.
  • System Management: Manage the SAP-MRP system to ensure stock availability meets customer demand.
  • Supplier Relationships: Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships, meeting suppliers quarterly.
  • Performance Improvement: Drive continuous performance improvements.
  • Cost Control: Maintain rigorous control over buying prices, actively seeking ways to reduce costs.
  • Collaboration: Liaise and collaborate with Marketing, Sales, R&D, and NPD teams internally.
  • Financial Responsibility: Manage a spend of approximately £10 million, with a stock holding for this category of £1 million.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in supply chain management, particularly in securing favourable pricing and managing stock levels.
  • Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and a strong understanding of stock management practices; SAP knowledge is an advantage.
  • Strong MS Excel skills.
  • Experience in a fast-paced working environment.
  • Excellent negotiation and relationship management skills.
  • Strong analytical abilities and attention to detail.
