Service Manager (Mechanical Engineering)



About the Role:

We are recruiting for a Service Manager with a strong background in mechanical engineering to oversee the servicing operations for one of our clients. Based at their Head Office in Chatham, Kent, this role involves managing service teams, liaising with customers, and ensuring high-quality standards are maintained in all service activities.

You will play a pivotal role in leading and coordinating a team of engineers, scheduling service operations, and delivering exceptional customer service. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a combination of mechanical engineering expertise and leadership skills to join a growing and dynamic team.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing the day-to-day operations of the service department, including scheduling and deployment of engineers.
  • Providing technical support and guidance to the service team, leveraging your mechanical engineering knowledge.
  • Ensuring all servicing and repairs are carried out to the highest standards and within agreed timeframes.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with customers, addressing their concerns and ensuring satisfaction.
  • Identifying opportunities to upsell additional services or equipment to customers.
  • Monitoring performance metrics and driving continuous improvement within the service department.
  • Ensuring compliance with all health and safety regulations.
  • Managing invoicing and ensuring accurate job records are maintained.


About You:

You will be a motivated and proactive leader with a strong background in mechanical engineering and experience managing service operations. You'll have excellent organisational and communication skills and the ability to inspire and lead a team to deliver exceptional results.



Personal Traits & Aptitudes:

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Solid knowledge and experience in mechanical engineering, ideally within the servicing or maintenance sector.
  • Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills with attention to detail.
  • Confident communicator at all levels, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships.
  • Adaptability to handle urgent customer requests and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Problem-solving mindset with the ability to think on your feet.


Qualifications & Skills:

  • Background in mechanical engineering or a related field, with hands-on experience preferred.
  • Experience managing service or maintenance teams is highly beneficial.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook and Excel.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to identify and maximize sales opportunities.
  • Full UK driving license is beneficial.
