Qualified Electrician (Renewables)

Location: Cardiff
Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time (Monday to Friday)

MDE Group are recruiting on behalf of a leading renewable energy company seeking a Qualified Electrician to join their growing team. This full-time role offers a hands-on opportunity in the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, with a focus on electrical systems such as AC cabling, containment, and distribution boards. While panel placement will be carried out by a separate roofing team, the ideal candidate will play a key role in the electrical installation and maintenance aspects of the projects.

The role will require occasional travel and working away from home, as needed, so flexibility is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Installation of AC systems and containment systems for solar PV projects.
  • Performing cabling and electrical connections for installations.
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety standards on-site.
  • Working efficiently as part of a team, demonstrating excellent timekeeping.
  • Managing a small team and providing leadership and support.
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving on-site challenges to ensure timely project completion.
  • Maintaining clear and effective communication with clients and team members.
  • Interpreting and following technical drawings related to AC and PV installations.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in AC system installation.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to liaise with clients.
  • Leadership skills, with the ability to manage and guide a small team.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Capability to read and interpret technical drawings or diagrams.
  • Full, clean driving license.
  • Valid CSCS/ECS Card.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a modern apprenticeship to level 3 in electrical installation.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
  • 2391 Inspection & Testing qualification (preferred but not essential).

Desirable Experience/Qualifications:

  • Experience in the installation of Photovoltaic Systems.
  • SSSTS/SMSTS qualifications (or willingness to obtain).
  • Ability to work away from home and manage accommodation and expenses when required.
