About the Role:
We are exclusively partnering with our client to recruit a highly motivated and experienced Resident Engineer/Setting Out Engineer to join their team on a major power and utilities project. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on a challenging and rewarding project, contributing to the delivery of essential infrastructure. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the accurate setting out and quality control of civil engineering works, with a particular focus on screw piling and ducting for a substation extension.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Drawing Review & Interpretation: Collaborate with the site team to review and interpret project drawings and specifications, ensuring a shared understanding of the technical requirements and construction methodology. Proactively identify and resolve any discrepancies.
  • Precise Setting Out: Accurately set out all elements of the works, including screw piling and ducting, utilizing appropriate surveying equipment.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement and maintain the project's QA/QC systems, including Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and the management of Technical Queries (TQs). Ensure compliance with all relevant standards and specifications.
  • Technical Scope Management: Oversee the technical execution of the civil works, ensuring they align with the design and specifications.
  • Site Supervision & Guidance: Provide technical guidance and support to site operatives, ensuring works are carried out to the required standards and within agreed timelines.
  • Comprehensive Record Keeping: Maintain meticulous records of all setting out activities, inspections, and test results.
  • Effective Collaboration: Work closely with the project team, including the Project Manager, Site Manager, and other engineers, to facilitate seamless communication and coordination.
  • Safety First: Adhere to all health and safety regulations and promote a safe working environment on site.


Required Skills and Experience:

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrable experience as a Setting Out Engineer or Resident Engineer, ideally within the power and utilities sector.
  • Proven ability to accurately set out complex civil engineering works.
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and surveying techniques.
  • Proficiency in using surveying equipment, such as total stations and levels.
  • Experience with QA/QC systems and procedures, including ITPs and TQs.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
  • Valid CSCS card.


Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with software such as, AutoCAD, Civil 3D
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards within the power and utilities sector.
