About the Job

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a positive difference in somebody else’s life. This is a flat mate type of role which goes far beyond simply care work and includes all the fun things you'd expect a university student to be doing. You will need to support the client to complete his training program in the morning (early start) and then support him with his studies. Other daily duties include:

  • Personal Care - Bathing, Dressing, Toileting.

  • Academic support - Theory & Practical work

  • Sighted Guiding

  • Daily Living

  • Social Support

  • Housekeeping / Domestic duties

Care experience is not required as full training in our client's particular requirements will be provided.

About our client

Our client is an active sports enthusiast who enjoys football, Formula 1, and cycling. They have been training with TEAM GB for Tandem Cycling and require support to balance training with university life. Despite being registered blind and having epilepsy, they are highly independent and sociable, seeking discreet assistance to navigate Cardiff Met University and engage fully in student life.

As written by him…

"It is important that you can support me to fit in my training around the rest of my day - so early mornings may be a regular thing!

I am very independent, and I like to do as much as I can by myself; I can be a bit stubborn as I don’t accept help that easily when I know it’s something I can do.

In September, I will be going into my third year at Cardiff Met University studying Sports Conditioning Rehabilitation and Massage (SCRAM for short). Whilst I am there I want to get a full experience of student life. You will have a room (that is paid for) however this is in a self catered house share with other flatmates off campus in Cardiff.

You will probably not have helped anyone in the same way before. So, experience is not important and not relevant as you will get training before you start and feedback of how things are going from me.

I will need my PA to support me with my lectures - this includes getting there on time, being a scribe, providing information on things that I can’t see

I’m not sure what the timetable on the new course will be like yet so we can work out a schedule when I get the timetable.

I look forward to meeting you"

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Own Transport (Essential)

  • Hold a degree (Desirable)

  • Familiar with Harvard Referencing

  • Confident in ability to deliver academic support

  • Physical fitness, patience, and a caring nature

  • Interested in sports or sports knowledge

  • Strong communication and listening skills

  • Mature and responsible attitude
