Role Overview: As a Secondary Teaching Assistant (Personal Care Support), you will work closely with teaching staff to provide support for students with a range of educational needs. This role will involve assisting students both academically and with personal care, ensuring they can fully participate in school activities and achieve their potential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide academic support in lessons under the direction of teaching staff.
- Assist students with personal care needs, including toileting, dressing and hygiene.
- Support students with mobility challenges and help them access learning materials and activities.
- Help students to develop social skills and participate in group activities.
- Monitor and track student progress, contributing to their individual education plans (IEPs).
- Maintain a safe and supportive environment, promoting the dignity and independence of students at all times.
- Engage in professional development opportunities to enhance your skills.
About You:
- Previous experience working with children or young people, ideally within a secondary school setting / care setting
- Experience or training in supporting with personal care needs.
- Empathy, patience, and a caring nature.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- A proactive approach, with the ability to use initiative.
- Knowledge of special educational needs is desirable but not essential.
- A relevant qualification (e.g., Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification) is desirable.
